Rockin' Rocks!

Little rocks photographed on a big rock for a dear friend who works my mom and I out everyday (seriously...she's our gym instructor and she’s going to throw these at us if we don’t step it up in class)!

Bittersweet!

I did theatre when I was young (the Melodrama) with my cousin and we have so many great memories from those summer days. We also have videos of the shows we were in (we laugh so hard we cry every time we watch them). Anyway, I been out of theatre for a long time, but one night my mom suggested we see “Helen Keller” at The Empty Space...we were blown away! Ever since that show, we have been returning to The Empty Space and other local theatres around town. So much hard work and dedication are poured into each show and, for that reason, I could never throw away a program from a show that my mom and I saw. I had huge dreams of making something wonderful, but I could never bring myself to cut up a program. So, I think the best thing I could do would be to return them where they came from. The Empty Space is going to get my collection and I think they are planning to scan them into a database, so they can archive their shows. What a great idea!!! We have been supporting local theatre for years now, but I still can’t really put my feelings into words. I just wish more people would recognize how many creative and talented people we have in our city and go support them. Many express that the reason they do theatre (despite the politics, late nights, exhaustion, sacrifice, etc.) is because they have to. This is what people should be doing...what they love! We support the theatre because...we have to.

Arm Art!

This is so FUN! You have to check out Fantasy Face Paint by Anna to see more of her work! Her painting process was so unique because she was inspired by what we were wearing, so our designs complimented our attire perfectly. She also painted stunning designs on people’s face, neck, and even feet! I was so sad when I had to wash off my design. I admit this kind of made me want to get a real tattoo! Maybe one of these days! I’m definitely going back for more designs in the future! These are just too fun!

The Art of Running!

I’ve been telling people for about five years now that I think I’m having a midlife crisis. I don’t think many people believed me, but maybe you’ll change your mind when you hear this...wait for it...wait for it...

on Friday, May 13th I signed up for a MARATHON!!!

Like a real one! This means I will be running 26.2 miles in about seven months from now. I’ll keep you updated on my progress, but since this blog is all about the heART, I’ll also make sure each running post has an artistic spin.

So, without further ado...here’s a picture of what’s going to be getting a lot of miles in over the next few months and also what’s going to get me across the finish line! What’s so artistic about that??? Well, these puppies happen to be covered in Via Arte chalk! Pretty soon they'll probably be covered in blisters...ewww!

5K...HEY, HEY, HEY!

Donate Life Bakersfield gathered together to run in the Donate Life annual 5K Run/Walk. This was Saint Olive’s first ever party planning event and we had so much fun with all the participants! We had such a wonderful group that traveled down to California State University, Fullerton on April 30th. One of the highlights was the revealing of the Donate Life Bakersfield logo!!! This is a huge deal because it’s the first ever city logo that has been approved by Donate Life AMERICA!!! Here are some pictures of the goodie bag preparation. Thank you to my sweet neighbor kids who helped me stuff the bags!
