Twelve

It seems like everyone started their “12 days until Christmas” countdown yesterday. I don’t know what happened to us, but it’s not unusual for us to get important dates wrong even when we write them down in a planner. :) Anyway, we’re starting it today because we didn’t yesterday and because it’s... SAINT LUCIA day!!!

This year our countdown will be all running related DIYs! I have my first ever Daily Mile (find me!) Secret Santa and some of these items will be used to fill her swag bag (aka present) along with other awesome running gear!

So, here is our first running related project... arm warmers!!!

They are made from SOCKS! So easy and waaaaaaayyyyyy cheaper than real arm warmers. You can chuck these during a race and not feel guilty at all. Just cut the toe area off, poke some thumb holes, and surge away (or turn and hem). It’s as easy as that. THEN... make some yo-yos with the pieces you cut away. Waste not, want not! Enjoy and stay warm...

Organ of Corti???

WRONG!!! I think this should actually be titled Scala Media and the Organ of Corti is in the middle of this model. I initially thought that making models would be a tremendous help, but obviously I'm just confusing myself even more... my bad. :)

ULTRA!

On November 12, 2011 I completed my first marathon (26.2 miles) and my first ULTRA MARATHON (32 miles)!!! I was out there (with friends... thank goodness for them) ALL DAY LONG!!! I’m serious! I started when it was dark and 10 hours and 54 minutes later I ended when it was dark!!! If you thought my feet looked disgusting when they were covered in Via Arte chalk, well believe me... that’s much more attractive than being covered in blisters. A month later and I still have the proof... gross. Anyway, the day after the ULTRA I took my dad to UCLA and I almost had to use the wheelchair. We were quite the sight “shuffling” down the medical plaza, but we did it! Like my favorite quotes says, “Your feet will bring you to where your heart is.

Want to do an ULTRA??? This is where I'll be next year... join me!!!

Donate Life Kern County...

is in the house!
I recently coordinated my first Donate Life meeting in Bakersfield and couldn't have done it without my mom's help. The group was small, but mighty! A big thank you to everyone who came out and supported us. Here is a sign my mom and I painted for the occasion. What’s next for Donate Life??? A Blood Drive!!! We are partnering with Houchin Community Blood Bank and Socks-On to help ring in the New Year by donating blood. Come out to Houchin January 5th from 4-8 pm to learn more about organ, eye, and tissue donation!

School Craft: Thanksgiving

Super easy bean candles!!!
Materials: styrofoam cups, glue, assorted dry beans, candle, paper clip, and ribbon
Steps: scoop up beans into cup, add glue, stir with the candle, add the paper clip, let dry, peel the cup, tie the bow in the paper clip! DONE!
*Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure these might be a fire hazard if they are actually lit, but besides being super easy to make... they are super cute despite the danger!!! :)
